LONDON
SHOPPING
London is arguably the best shopping experience
in the world. You can easily be overwhelmed by the range
of products available.
No matter what it is your heart desires, there is an
area of London that will cover it. All major international
brands centre around Oxford Street, Regent Street and
Bond Street. Chanel, Versace, Armani, Donna Karan, and
don’t forget the top English designers who are
the “new boys on the block” Burberry and
Mulberry.
Regent Street is the home of Liberty founded in 1870.
Over 200 million people visit this area every year with
Oxford Street claiming to be the busiest. Here you find
institutions, such as, Debenhams, John Lewis ( who guarantee
they have the lowest prices), Selfridges, Lulu Guinness
and Jasper Conran. The famous Ritz Hotel is found in
Piccadilly as is the 300 year old Fortnum and Mason
store and the Royal Academy.
In this area is, also to be found, the famous Sotheby’s
auction rooms. Knightsbridge is the home of world renown
names like Harrods, Harvey Nichols where designer shops,
Christian Dior, Chanel, Prada, Armani favour Old/New
Bond Street and Sloane Street. Fulham Road is home to
Conrad’s modern lines and timeless pieces and
Italian and French Kitchenware come alive in Divertimenti.
Nowhere can there be a larger selection of independent
smaller fashion shops and boutiques than in Covent Garden,
along with its street entertainers and bustling Café’s
Bistros and Restaurants.
Mention British bespoke tailoring and Saville Row and
Jeremy Street are world famous. Music shops ( arguably
quite expensive compared to some cities ) are scattered
throughout the City and you can still pick up bargains
with Sale and promotional offers. Bookshops are represented
all around the city but for the best concentration of
large and small, try Charing Cross Road.
For Electrical goods Tottenham Court Road takes some
beating. For something a little more expensive it’s
worth a browse around the jewelry shops of Hatton Garden,
if only to window shop and dream, o r try New Bond Street.
Something old ? With the finest selection of antiques
shops in historic Church Street, adjacent to Kensington
Palace, you can still pick up a bargain.
Plan
an expedition with a few friends for a day, a weekend
or longer. Visit some of those “everybody must
see places”, enjoy sumptuous food, fabulous
shows and reviews. Yes there is nowhere in the world
quite like LONDON.
Let
“Ladies nights London” be your guide to
help you plan that wonderful shopping trip !
