Pubs and Clubs The
best way to start to inform about pubs and clubs in
London is to separate them into three categories.
There are traditional Pubs, Bars and Dance Clubs.
Traditional pubs can be found all over London and
come in many guises. You have the “spit and
sawdust” smoke stained, dingy establishments
that seem to cater for the habitual drinkers that
start to get tanked up at 11 in the morning and fall
out at 4 in the afternoon. Then there is the respectable
made over pubs with stained glass windows and polished
timber that fills at lunch time and early evening
with the blue collar businessman type. Sports fans
love these establishments as they generally have several
large screened t v sets. Food can be pretty good in
these pubs from basic “ Bangers and Mash “
to Nouvelle cuisine. Most pubs have histories as glorious
as the city itself.
Bars have sprung up on virtually every street corner
throughout the City. Full of chrome, mirrors and trendy
interiors, like the people that frequent them. Usually
young and impressive they fill to overflowing, but
make sure you have a healthy wallet.
Clubs, themselves, can be split into two categories.
Big, funky places where hunks in suits stand like
gargoyles on either side of the entrances, or dark
sweaty dance bars to have fun in rather than pose.
With 1100 pubs and bars and nearly as many clubs in
the city area alone, it’s easy to say you’re
spoilt for choice. Recommending a few in each category
would be difficult. Suffice to say “just walk
along the street, go in, if you don’t like it
you can be assured there will be another within a
few yards” |
