Budget flights are encouraging an entire generation to risk their health by cramming months of binge drinking into a few days, an expert have warned.

It is now commonplace for hen weekend activity to fly off for the weekend to destinations such as Dublin, Prague and the Latvian capital, Riga.

There they drink until they no longer know what they are doing, putting themselves in danger of accidents and also risking their long-term health with unprotected sex.

He found that young holidaymakers who went away for a fortnight or more on budget flights were compressing six normal months of drink and sex into their time abroad on there hen weekend activity.

'Even more indulgent'

The professor and his team spent three years asking young Britons in Ibiza about their behaviour. Each year around 1,000 filled in questionnaires about sex and alcohol.

There answers suggested that one in seven women has more than one sexual partner while on holiday.
Just over half of those travelling without a partner had sex during their stay; with just under 40 per cent of them saying that they did not always use a condom.
Much of the unsafe sex is linked to heavy use of alcohol plus substances including Viagra and the date-rape drug GHB.

Tackling behaviour abroad
"If people normally go out once or twice a week over the year, it means their holidays of a few weeks contain half their annual allowance of nights out and the girls hen weekend activity.
"With the growth of cheap flights it means weekends and hen weekend activity away for hen nights or holidays in places like Dublin or Riga are now more affordable.

"We are tackling this kind of behaviour in the UK but we need to look at when our young people are abroad too."

"There are signs people are trying to set up resorts that cater to this kind of 'compressed' holiday in the UK. With places like Blackpool Bournemouth, Brighton and London, for example, people will travel a few hundred miles away from home and spend a whole weekend going out.

"Because it is mostly night-based activities, the weather isn't so important. These young people are putting themselves at short-term risk through accidents or incidents when they are out of it.
